As mentioned on the
Event Planning Resources
page, regardless of which part of the industry you are interested in working, and regardless of your level of experience, there is a wide range of information that you need to learn in order to pursue a career in events, incentives, and meetings.
While nothing beats hands-on experience, it certainly facilitates the learning process if you know what your mentors or colleagues are talking about. For instance, you might think that you're ready for a job as an event planning assistant, until on your first day your supervisor asks you the following:
"Please call the DMC and ask for our A&D manifests in alpha and chrono, and to list the equipment; then ask our CSM to change the GS from theater to chevron. See if our gobo's came in and cross-check the BEOs from the pre-con."
.....huh?
Precisely. That's every-day lingo in the events and meeting industry. Ergo, the need to read!
There are many books on the market to help you understand the world of events, incentives, and meetings.
Conference and Event Planning ChecklistWhether you are planning your first event or are a seasoned pro, you know that checklists are our best friends. Without checklists, we would be lost. This 25-page report is my own personal Conference and Event Planning Checklist. It outlines all generic "to dos's" needed for any event or conference; each line item is color-coded depending on whether it applies to events, conferences, or both. For the cost of two fancy coffees, you can have peace of mind!

***On a personal note: I make a small (very small) percentage of each book that sells when you click on the links above. This is called "affiliate marketing" and it helps pay for the cost of this website.
Recently, Amazon.com "fired" all of its Colorado affiliates for political reasons. I therefore ask that you buy through the links above, which support a local and much-adored privately-owned bookstore in Denver called The Tattered Cover. If nothing else, buy these books at your local independent bookstore; and boycott the conglomerates such as Amazon that hold power over our small businesses.
Thank you and please, support independent bookstores!
