How do I start a career in event planning?
I hate to be so blunt, but, ummm, the answer to this is too long to answer in an email, and that is why I created this website!!!! Seriously. If I could answer that question in just a sentence or two, then there would be no need for this website.
I also have a weekly newsletter, in which I go into these topics in much more detail. It is free, I will not send you spam, I will not sell or give out your information, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
For much, much more information and weekly tips and hints on how to start your career in event planning,
click here to subscribe to my newsletter, EVENTful Ventures.
In the meantime, please start with the "Home" page as linked above and be sure to read through the website, each and every page and all the blue links within the pages.
I realize this takes time, but your career will reflect the time you are willing to invest in it. If you're willing to do the research, take the time to learn everything you can about this industry, and take the steps that I recommend in this site, then someday soon you'll find yourself starting your dream career!
What schooling or certifications do I need to become an event planner?
This is the single most popular question I am asked by my readers. After literally thousands of people asking my guidance on which courses to take, and after extensive research on the courses available out there, I came upon a depressing conclusion: there is not one online course out there that I feel comfortable recommending to my readers.
Most courses focus on wedding planning, party planning, and how to start your own event planning business (although, ironically, you've never worked a single event yourself!).
My course will teach you WHY you can't make a living at any of those three things that most courses focus on; as well as how you CAN make a decent living as a planner. Then, I teach you the basics of what you need to know.

What college courses should I take?
Whether you are just starting college, still in college, or considering going back, this page will guide you in the right direction.
Can you recommend a school?
The "Event Planning Schools" page (click on the above question for the link) lists a few universities and online courses that I have researched and appear to provide quality courses, or ones that have been referred to me by someone who has attended them.
What event planning books do you recommend?
The single best way to learn about the industry is to get hands-on experience; and you can do this by volunteering (for more, visit the
Career Planning page).
However, in the meantime, you can learn by reading. Click on the link above for recommended Event Planning Books.
Do you have any job openings, or can you tell me of any?
No, I do not have any openings in my company. Since job openings change by the day, I can not tell you each day who has job openings.
However, if you sign up for my free newsletter, you will automatically receive my free report, "25 Jobs Site for Event Planning." This simply lists 25 sites that post job openings.
My newsletter will also guide you through the steps you need to pursue a career in event planning. It will offer weekly tips and hints, as well as an occasional website that offers more help on your path.
Can I ask you some questions over the phone?
Yes, I am available for one-on-one consultation, and would be happy to chat with you in person over the phone! However, please realize that, again, this is a hobby/start-up business for me and unfortunately, I am not independently wealthy!
Therefore, I have to charge for my time, just as anyone else in any other profession does.
For an hourly fee, I will answer any questions you have about the industry, and give you advice on your particular situation as it relates to event planning. For the same amount of money as a new pair of shoes or a new sweater, I can help plan your future and guide you in your career.
Where are your priorities?
